  • 12 members and 2 guest(s) attended.  Chamian and Kenny joined us from Empowered Recreation regarding a nutrition and fitness program.
  • Campsite report:
    • Tom tells us the Eagle Scout project at the amphitheater is moving forward.
    • Also, it seems clear that Lawnmower-gate has begun.  More info to come.
  • Eagle Scout project report with John E:
    • None this week.
  • Key Club report with Bev:
    • none this week.
  • Concessions with Frank and Helen
    • Tomorrow night is taken care of for Track, while Ken and Carol have the 31st covered.
  • Pancake Breakfast
    • Sign ups needed for the upcoming breakfast.
  • The leadership nominations for the next term are:
    • President: Jim Dow agreed to run, though Tim was nominated since he has experience and he’s not here.
    • VP: John Ester
    • Treasurer & Secretary: Glenda Ester
    • The vote will be held May 29, 2012.

Upcoming Events:

  • June 9, 2012 – CLE training for new incoming officers.  9am at Kent Senior Center.
  • July 24, 2012 – Summer Picnic

Happy Buck Highlights:   cut grass, the sad buck for Bev’s resignation (!), all of the hard work for the Pancake Breakfast, and a buck for Gaston not being happy (thanks for that one Tim).

Birthdays / Anniversaries: Jim Dow just celebrated his birthday.

Reports & Announcements:

  • 15 members and 1 guest(s) attended.
  • Will Skubi from the Aquila District came by to thank our organization for the use of our camp, and to give us an update on what the District has been up to.
  • Campsite report:
    • Nothing substantial this week, though we may be letting the camp retire to nature soon.
    • Also, it seems clear that Lawnmower-gate has begun.  More info to come.
  • Eagle Scout project report with John E:
    • None this week.
  • Key Club report with Bev:
    • No report this week.
  • Concessions with Frank and Helen
    • We owe Jan a huge thanks for all his efforts with the concession stand.  The long series of soccer events is now complete.
    • There is a Track event for the 23rd (a week from Wednesday).  If you can help out at the stand, please contact Frank.
    • Jan has started to meet with Terri and others to select candidates for the scholarship.
  • Capital Improvement with Frank:
    • No report this week.
  • Pancake Breakfast
    • More advertisers are joining in.  There’s lots of support coming from the business community.
  • We’ll be having a guest speaker next week.

Happy Buck Highlights:   Lots of bucks for Jan’s concession efforts.  Jim’s son graduated from college.  Thanks goes out to Will Skubi for his visit.  A few bucks were donated for great weather.  John G put in a buck for Lawnmower-gate.  Buck for all the work we all put in.

    • No report this week.
  • Eagle Scout project report with John E:
    • Signed off on one Eagle project this last week.
  • Key Club report with Bev:
    • No report or Key Clubs tonight.
  • Concessions with Frank and Helen
    • Last Saturday Frank and Helen helped Jan at a BIG Soccer day, and sales were up.
    • Frank met with Terri and got a signed agreement for Concessions thru Aug 31.  He gave her a donation to the new student athlete Scholarship Fund and would like someone to attend an appreciation night at Mt Rainer.  The President gladly volunteered.   Also Terri created a panel to judge who should get the Scholarships and wanted someone from Kiwanis to be on it.  Jan has accepted to be on the Panel.  Thanks Jan.   Track meets are coming up this month and will need volunteers to help at Concessions.
  • Capital Improvement for Clubhouse with Frank:
    • Locks on the cabinets are done.
  • Pancake Breakfast
    • Placemat Ad sales is moving right along.  Jim D is working on getting that beer promised by Brad for the biggest seller of ad space.
    • Helen is getting things put together for the basket raffle. Will be asking for donations to finish getting the things needed for the baskets.   Glenda had 200 brochures printed by Print Place in Des Moines.   Jim D is going to put together a tri fold board with pictures and wording from the brochure to get more exposure at our Pancake breakfast.    GET OUT THERE AND SELL AD SPACE!!
  • Jim D mentioned that Kiwanis Intl is wanting to change the bylaws.  LTG John Gaston said they are trying to simplify and make thinks easier for clubs.  Jim D will send out the site for members to review.

Happy Buck Highlights:   bucks went to Jim D for his Ad sales, the work party a few weeks ago and just the general work everyone is putting in.

Birthdays / Anniversaries: The club celebrated Leif and Jen’s anniversary at the last meeting.

    • The work party last week was a great success.
    • A few weeks ago, John called the police regarding vagrants close to the North side of the camp.  A police report was filed.

    • Nothing to add this week, thank you.
  • Key Club report with Bev:
    • No report or Key Clubs tonight.
  • Concessions with Frank and Helen
    • Jan is seeing some increased sales… great!
    • Ken was REALLY helpful and witty in this conversation.  Thanks Ken.
  • Capital Improvement for Clubhouse with Frank:
    • New locks are on many of the cabinets.  Things looks like they’re getting wrapped up on the Capital Improvement list.
  • Old News: Brad has some 1988 old news that was pretty cool to see.
  • Pancake Breakfast
    • Tim started with some correspondence to last year’s advertisers.
    • Breakfast tickets and advertiser forms are ready to sell … get yours now!

  • 14 members and 1 guest attended.  Thanks to Jessica Lee (Key Club Lt. Governor) for your presentation!
  • Campsite report:
    • Campsite work party is scheduled for 4/17.  This may be rescheduled.
  • Eagle Scout project report with John E:
    • One project has been finished and signed-off.
    • Another project is underway to redo the stairs.
    • The previous project to update the Amphitheater is temporarily held up as the Eagle candidate has a broken foot.  That effort is scheduled to continue in May.
  • Key Club report with Bev:
    • DCON was wild.  More info to come.
  • Concessions with Frank and Helen
    • No info back from Terri.
    • Concessions are doing well.  Jan is holding up the fort.
  • Capital Improvement for Clubhouse with Frank:
    • New locks will be ordered this week.
    • More electrical work has been done with new lighting.  It looks great!

  • April 4, 2012 – Tree replanting project with Jim Jennings.  Meet at John G’s house.

  • Ken North from the Downtown Kiwanis club gave a great presentation about the Bio-Tech company he’s working with: Kineta.
    • Kineta has several drug therapies they are working on against auto-immune diseases.  One is directed against MS, and another focused on influenza variations.
  • Campsite report:
    • Ken reports that a landslide may be contributing to the damed up creek.  A work party is likely going to be needed soon.
  • Eagle Scout project report with John E:
    • the latest Eagle project is done, and John feels the Eagle candidate did a great job.
    • there’s another Eagle candidate that John will meet with this coming week.
  • Key Club report with Bev:
    • DCON is still center-stage for the Key Clubs.
  • Concessions with Frank and Helen

  • Capital Improvement for Clubhouse with Frank:
